How the count is defined

The 180-day exchange deadline
In a US like-kind (1031) exchange, the replacement property must be received within 180 days of transferring the relinquished property — or by the due date of that year's tax return including extensions, whichever comes first. That second half is the part that catches people out: a late-year sale can have its 180 days cut short by the filing deadline. The matching 45-day identification clock starts on the same day and is covered on 45 days from today.
Rolling windows and six-month validity
A hundred and eighty days is the length of the rolling window in the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule, and the practical meaning of the "six months' passport validity" many countries ask for on entry. It is also the point at which medical, dental and optical recall intervals are commonly set. Note that 180 days is slightly short of half a year: a non-leap year is 365 days, so half of it is 182 and a half.
Weekends, holidays and working days
Nothing is skipped here: weekends and public holidays sit inside the count, which is what a plain day count means in almost every contract, notice and policy.
