Six PDF tools: five run entirely in your browser and upload nothing at all. Convert to and from Word, combine or split files, and shrink file size, all without signing up or installing anything.
Which tool do I need?
- Have a PDF, need an editable document? Use PDF to Word.
- Have a scan or a photo of a document, and you need the words as editable text? Use PDF to Word as well. A scan is a picture of a page, and its default conversion reads the words out of the picture.
- Have a Word document, need a PDF? Use Word to PDF.
- Have several PDFs, want them as one file? Use Merge PDF.
- Have one PDF, need to pull out pages or split it apart? Use Split PDF.
- Your PDF's file size is too big to email or upload? Use Compress PDF.
- Have photos or scans, and you want them collected into one PDF as they are? Use Images to PDF.
Why these tools are different
Most free PDF sites upload your file to a server, convert it there, and send back a result, meaning your document, even briefly, sits somewhere you don't control. Five of the six tools here do the opposite: the file is read and processed entirely on your own device using your browser's own capabilities. Once one of those pages has loaded, you can turn on airplane mode and it still works offline, proof that nothing is being sent anywhere. That is what makes them secure in the way that counts: a file that never travels has nothing to intercept and no server copy to breach.
The exception is PDF to Word. A browser cannot read the words out of a scanned page, so that tool converts on our server by default, up to 25 MB and 50 pages, five a day: your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted, then deleted straight away. If you would rather it never left your device, one link under the button switches it to the same in-browser engine every other tool here uses.
That also means there's no signup, no email address to hand over, no daily limit tied to an account, and no watermark added to your results. Each tool is single-purpose and free to use as often as you need.

Which PDF tool do I need?
It depends on what you're starting with. Converting a PDF to an editable document uses PDF to Word; going the other way uses Word to PDF. A scan is a picture of a page rather than text, and PDF to Word reads those too. Combining several PDFs into one uses Merge PDF; pulling out pages or splitting a PDF apart uses Split PDF. Shrinking a file that's too large to email uses Compress PDF. Collecting photos or scans into one PDF as they are uses Images to PDF.
Is there a file size limit?
Each tool has its own limit, generous enough for almost any real document, typically 30-50 MB depending on the tool. PDF to Word's default server conversion is stricter: up to 25 MB and 50 pages, five a day. Anything bigger falls back to its 50 MB browser mode automatically.
Do these tools work on mobile?
Yes. They run in any modern browser, including on a phone or tablet.
Can I use these tools with no internet connection?
Five of the six work offline: once the page has finished loading, turn on airplane mode and they still work, because nothing is sent anywhere. PDF to Word needs a connection for its default conversion, but its browser mode works offline like the rest.
