Compress Image to a Target Size

Upload a photo, pick a target file size like 100 KB or 200 KB, and download a smaller version that fits under it. Great for uploads with a size limit. Everything happens in your browser — your image never leaves your device.

How to compress an image to a certain size

Choose a photo, then pick a target file size — tap a preset like 100 KB or type your own number in KB. Click Compress image and the tool lowers the quality just enough to land under your target, then shows you the size it achieved. Click download to save it.

JPEG is the best choice for photographs and gives the smallest file most of the time. WebP can go even smaller while staying sharp, though a few older programs don't open it. If your target is smaller than what's physically possible for that image, the tool tells you the smallest size it can reach so you can pick a realistic target.

Your image never leaves your device — compressing is done entirely in your browser.

Common image-compression questions

How do I compress an image to under 100 KB? Choose your photo, tap the 100 KB preset (or type 100), and click Compress image. The tool lowers the quality just enough to land under 100 KB and shows the final size before you download.

Why do websites require a photo under a certain size? Job applications, passport and visa portals, and many forms cap the file size — often 100 KB, 200 KB, or 1 MB — to save storage and speed up uploads. Compressing to fit lets your image upload without being rejected.

Will compressing ruin the quality? Mild compression is hard to notice. The smaller your target, the more detail is removed, so if a photo looks soft, try a slightly larger target. The tool always shows the size it reached so you can find a balance.

What if my target size is too small? If a target is smaller than is physically possible for that picture, the tool tells you the smallest size it can reach. Pick a target at or above that number, or resize the image to fewer pixels first.

Is it safe to compress private photos here? Yes. Everything runs in your browser on your own device, so personal or ID photos are never uploaded.
