Pace Calculator

Enter any two of distance, time, and pace and the calculator finds the third — in minutes per kilometre or per mile — along with your average speed and predicted race finish times. Results update as you type, and nothing is uploaded.

Enter a distance and a time to see your pace.

How to use the pace calculator

Pick what you want to find — pace, time, or distance — then fill in the other two boxes. The answer appears instantly; there's no button to press and nothing leaves your device.

Find pace. Enter how far you went and how long it took, and see your pace per kilometre or per mile.

Find time. Enter a distance and a target pace to see your projected finish time — handy for planning a race.

Find distance. Enter a time and a pace to see how far that would take you.

Switch between kilometres and miles with the unit selector — the pace, speed, and predicted race times all convert automatically.

Pace vs. speed

Pace and speed describe the same effort from two angles. Pace is the time to cover one unit of distance — minutes per kilometre or per mile — so a lower number is faster. Speed is the distance covered per hour, so a higher number is faster. A 5:00 / km pace is the same as 12 km/h. This calculator shows both so you can use whichever your watch or treadmill displays.

Common race paces

These are the finish times you'd get by holding an even pace the whole way — a useful planning target, though most runners drift slightly slower over longer distances:

  • 5:00 / km → 5K in 25:00, 10K in 50:00, half marathon in about 1:45:30, marathon in about 3:30:59.
  • 6:00 / km → 5K in 30:00, 10K in 1:00:00, half marathon in about 2:06:35, marathon in about 4:13:10.
  • 8:00 / km (brisk walk) → 5K in 40:00, 10K in 1:20:00.

Common pace questions

How do I calculate my running pace? Divide your total time by the distance. Ten kilometres in fifty minutes is 5:00 per kilometre. The Find pace mode does this for you.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile? Multiply your min/km pace by about 1.609, since a mile is 1.609 km. Switch the unit selector and the calculator converts for you.

What is a good 5K pace? It varies hugely by age, fitness, and goal. Many recreational runners finish a 5K between 25 and 35 minutes, which is roughly a 5:00 to 7:00 per-kilometre pace. Use the calculator to find the pace that hits your own target time.

Does it work for walking and cycling too? Yes — the math is the same for any steady distance and time, so you can use it for walking, hiking, or cycling pace as well.

Predicted finish times assume an even pace and are a guide only, not a performance guarantee.
