How to use the tip calculator
Type in the bill, then either tap a tip preset (15%, 18%, 20%, or 25%) or type your own tip percent. Set how many people are sharing the bill with the plus and minus buttons, and the answer appears instantly — there's no button to press and nothing is sent anywhere.
Tip and total. The calculator multiplies the bill by the tip percent to get the tip, then adds it to the bill for the total.
Splitting the bill. The total is divided evenly by the number of people, so everyone pays the same share.
Round up per person. Turn this on to round each person's share up to the next whole dollar. The tip and total update to match what everyone actually hands over, which makes paying in cash simpler.
Everything runs in your browser — the numbers you type are never uploaded.
Common tipping questions
How much should I tip? In the U.S., 15% to 20% is typical for table service, with 20% or more for great service. Use the presets as a starting point and adjust to taste.
How do I work out a tip by hand? Multiply the bill by the tip percent and divide by 100. A 20% tip on a $50 bill is 50 × 20 ÷ 100 = $10, making the total $60.
How do I split a bill evenly? Add the tip to the bill to get the total, then divide by the number of people. A $60 total split between 2 people is $30 each.
Do I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount? Either is common. Enter whichever bill figure you prefer — the calculator tips on whatever number you type.
How much is a 20% tip on $50? A 20% tip on $50 is $10, for a total of $60. Tap the 20% preset and enter 50 as the bill to see it, including the per-person share if you split it.
