How to use the word counter
Type directly into the box or paste text from anywhere — an essay, a blog draft, a social post or an email. Every statistic updates the instant you type, so there is no button to press and nothing leaves your device. Words counts each run of letters or numbers (with contractions and hyphenated words counted as one), while characters are shown both with and without spaces because different platforms measure each differently. You also get sentence, paragraph and line counts, plus the average number of words per sentence as a quick readability signal.
The reading time and speaking time estimates are based on average speeds — 200 words per minute for reading and about 130 for speaking aloud. Change the reading-speed field to match your audience or your own pace and both figures recalculate. The keyword density list ignores common filler words so you can see the terms you actually lean on, which is handy when writing for search.

Character limits for common platforms
The limits table compares your character count against the lengths people most often write against: 280 characters for a post on X/Twitter, 160 for a single SMS or a meta description, 60 for an SEO title tag, and longer caps for Instagram and LinkedIn. It shows how many characters you have left, and turns red when you go over, so you can trim a post or description to fit before you publish.
Is anything saved or uploaded? No. The tool is fully client-side — your text never leaves your browser and nothing is stored.
