Savings Goal Calculator

Find out how much to save each month to reach a goal by your deadline — or how long it will take at a deposit you choose. Enter your numbers and the answer updates as you type. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use the savings goal calculator

Start by entering your savings goal — the total you want to reach, like an emergency fund, a house deposit, or a holiday. Add anything you've already saved so it counts toward the goal, and the interest rate your savings earn.

Choose what you want to work out at the top. How much to save each period asks for your deadline in years and shows the regular deposit needed. How long it will take asks how much you can put aside each period and shows the time until you reach the goal. Everything updates instantly as you type.

Under the headline figure you'll see how much you contribute yourself versus how much is interest earned — the part that compounding does for you. Set the rate to 0 for a plain, growth-free estimate.

Everything runs in your browser — the amounts you type are never uploaded. These figures are estimates based on a fixed rate, not financial advice; real savings rates and returns vary.

Common savings goal questions

How much should I save each month to reach my goal? Take your goal, subtract what your current savings will grow to with interest, and spread the rest across the deposits before your deadline. This calculator does that for you and shows the monthly amount.

How does interest change how much I need to save? Interest works in your favour: the higher the rate, the more your balance and deposits grow on their own, so the amount you add yourself goes down. Set the rate to 0 to see the figure with no growth.

How long will it take to reach my savings goal? Switch to "How long will it take", enter how much you can save each period, and the tool counts the months and years until your balance first reaches the goal.

What interest rate should I use? Use the rate your savings actually earn. A high-yield savings account might be a few percent; longer-term investments are often estimated higher but carry risk. If unsure, leave it at 0 for a conservative estimate.

Is anything saved or uploaded? No. The tool is fully client-side — the amounts you enter never leave your browser and nothing is stored.
