Percentage Calculator

Work out a percentage of a number, what percent one number is of another, a percent increase or decrease, or the price after a discount. Results update as you type.

How to use the percentage calculator

Pick what you want to work out from the menu, then fill in the two boxes. The answer appears instantly — there's no button to press and nothing is sent anywhere.

What is X% of a number? Use this for tips, sales tax, or "20% of 150." Enter the percent and the number, and you get the amount.

X is what percent of a number? Use this to turn a score or a part into a percentage — for example, "30 out of 120 is 25%."

Percent increase or decrease. Enter a starting value and a new value to see how much it went up or down in percent — handy for price changes, raises, or test scores.

Discount / percent off. Enter a price and the percent off to see the final price and how much you save.

Everything runs in your browser — the numbers you type are never uploaded.

Common percentage questions

How do I find a percentage of a number? Multiply the number by the percent, then divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 is 150 × 20 ÷ 100 = 30.

How do I work out what percent one number is of another? Divide the first number by the second, then multiply by 100. For example, 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%.

How do I calculate a percent increase? Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. Going from 100 to 125 is a 25% increase.

How do I work out a price after a discount? Multiply the price by the percent off and divide by 100 to get the savings, then subtract that from the price. $80 with 25% off becomes $60, saving $20.

How do I calculate a percent decrease? Subtract the new value from the old value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. Going from 200 to 150 is a 25% decrease. Use the percent increase or decrease option and the tool shows a drop as a negative change.
